Micro-mosaic

Created for Deaf Hope's Glimmer of Hope 2011 Benefit Dinner, "An Evening of Miracles." The damaged sculpture base seems to have been created by unknown Fijian artist. In Japanese culture, instead of throwing away broken or damaged pottery and figurines, the pieces are sealed back together with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum to preserve its history (kintsugi). Hence, the sculpture was mosaic'ed as a symbolic reference to survivors healing and rebuilding themselves from domestic violence/sexual assault. Photo by Ken Arcia.
